I love Ebates! Last year I did as much Christmas shopping online as I could and I used the Ebates website to link up to my favorite websites so I could earn cash back on my purchases. I even discovered that some of my favorite online sites for buying diapers and wipes were on the Ebates site! Plus, this year, you can print grocery coupons from their website to get even more Ebates rebates!!!
In January, I received a nice little rebate check from Ebates! It was so nice to get money back from buying online. I got to shop in my pj's, and my rebate check paid for some special things that I wanted to get for myself post-Christmas ;)

This year for Christmas, I'm doing a $50 American Express Card Giveaway! Woot! From now, until December 31st, The first 100 people to sign up with this Ebates link and make a minimum $25 purchase by 12pm CST on 12/31/2011 will be entered to win a $50 American Express Gift Card.*

If you'd like to earn more entries AFTER you make your qualifying $25 Ebates purchase, Tweet, blog, and Facebook about this giveaway daily! Mention this blog or @HotPinkNChoc. Be sure to leave a comment with a web link below every time you share it. There's no limit to the number of entries you can earn!

*The winner will be chosen by and notified via email. If the gift card isn't claimed within 48 hours, a new winner will be chosen.

We all know that Friday is BLACK FRIDAY and Monday is CYBER MONDAY. And, the marketing geniuses won't let us forget that they are planning to blow our minds with deals galore. I've seen several deals at a few stores that I just can't forget about.

I've also seen a lot of grocery deals that I'm chomping at the bit to get after. I'm SO excited about the prospect of exponentially growing my stash this season.

But, something weird happened to me the other day when I was reading about all these deals I was supposed to be summarizing for my column in the AJ.

I was getting so excited about ALL the freebies this week and so anxious that I wanted to run out the door right away and get to shopping. But, my anxiousness was followed by a bit of stress because my grocery budget is pretty much drained until next Friday. And, I want to take advantage of all these deals.

That's when the weird thing happened. I stopped. I stepped back from the situation and realized that the urgency and stress I was feeling was what I was supposed to be feeling... according to the marketers at these establishments. But why?

Because, I MUST NOT MISS ANY OF THESE DEALS! At least, that's what my head is screaming.

But, my heart is saying, "Do I NEED these things?"

And, there it is. The weird thing. The clincher.

The truth... No. I don't need these things. I would LIKE these things. I might need them in the future. But, today? No. Not today. Tomorrow? No. Not tomorrow.

So, the anxiety disappears and a sound mind resurfaces.

My point... Don't get sucked into the panic, stress, and anxiety of this season of shopping. Do what you can. Take advantage of the deals that you have the means to, but know when to say when. Don't let yourself get so wrapped up in the shopping season that you miss the purpose and the fun of it. :)

I’m a night-owl shopper. Not because I want to be, but usually it’s because I have to be. I’ve learned my lesson about trying to coupon with four children in tow. It’s a sure fire way to lose money. I don’t know of any couponing mom who can pull it off successfully. (If you’re out there lady, let me know how you do it.) So, for our household, the best time for me to go to the store alone, without stressful scheduling, is after all the children are in bed, and the night shift is on duty.

I think Target staff on Marsha Sharp thinks I plan to come in and shop after hours, but I promise, I want to be there before lights out. I wish our Super Target was a 24-hour store. Oh, man, the fiscal mischief I could get myself into… But that’s another column.

Today I want to tell you about a shopping revelation and a young man who helped save me from falling off the frugal-shopping bandwagon.

If you haven’t already carved out time to shop this week, then you’re probably going to want to after you read my weekly matchups below. There are some great deals to be had this week. Specifically, freebies before Thanksgiving Day. I know everyone is eager to see what will happen on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so we are planning to give a break-down of Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving Day via our Lubbock Savvy Shoppers Facebook page.

And, I’ll highlight Cyber Monday deals in next Sunday’s column. There’s a lot going on, so now is a great time to get plugged in with our Facebook feeds. We’re bringing our Facebook friends shopping, eating, and online deal content daily. Check us out at: as Lubbock Savvy Shopper.

Yesterday I received this FULL SIZE bottle of Snuggle Fabric Softner in the mail - for FREE! I'm a member of Smiley 360 and I get to try new products for free! Every couple of weeks I receive a new invitation for a try and tell. I've received high value coupons, plus, last month I received a FREE Pyrex dish, FREE full size Pam spray, and a FREE can of Hunt's Tomatoes!

It's really easy to get signed up. Just go here. Don't worry, they won't flood your inbox with spam. This is a great program and they are respectful of your privacy. :)

I went to Target this week with my shopping list, my stack of sorted and stapled coupons, and my coupon binder. I was minding my own business, deep in thought configuring a savings scenario plan, when two young ladies approached me and asked if I was one of those “Extreme Couponers” like the ones on TLC’s show.

I hesitantly and quietly said yes.

I wasn’t sure what they were about to say, and I was hoping for a nonconfrontational conversation. It has been my experience most people admire couponers, but there are a few out there who we just can’t ever seem to win over.

I was hoping these two ladies fell into the former category. They were very excited to hear my answer and began firing away at me with questions about my binder, where to find coupons and where my TV crew was.

I explained that I’m not (nor do I ever hope to be) on a TV show. I simply apply the principles from that show to my shopping methods.

We stood there in the middle of the main isle between the children’s section and the frozen foods and chatted for a bit. As it turned out, they were both very new to couponing, but curious and anxious to learn.

I gave them a few tips and pointers, and we parted company cheerfully going about our business. I proceeded to the toothpaste isle looking for my coupon stacking opportunity and realized I had two Target coupons for toothpaste and two manufacturer coupons.

The next thing I know, I’m leaping down the aisle calling them back to me.

What’s the quickest way to say, “Would you like for me to show you how to stack and become an Extreme Couponer right now?”

How about “Hey, have you ladies got $1 to spend?”

Not my best work, I know, but it got their attention and they came with me to the toothpaste aisle. I explained to them the purpose of the Target store coupon with the $1.50 off one tube offer, and the benefit of stacking a manufacturer’s coupon on top of it for an additional $1 off the same tube of toothpaste.
